Former President Donald Trump has vowed his administration will seek to prosecute Google if he wins in November, claiming the company’s search engine only promotes “bad stories” about him.
Trump made the threat on his Truth Social account on Friday after a damning study found the Big Tech giant was burying results for his campaign website under those of Democratic rival Kamala Harris’ official website — and pulling articles. who favored the Vice President.
“It has been determined that Google illegally used a system of only detecting and displaying bad stories about Donald J. Trump, some fabricated for that purpose, while, at the same time, only revealing good stories about friend Kamala Harris,” the Republican. wrote the presidential candidate.
“This is LEGAL ACTIVITY, and we hope the Department of Justice will prosecute them for this blatant election interference.”
If DOJ officials under a second Trump administration refuse to pursue charges against the company, “I will seek to pursue them, at the highest levels, when I win the election and become President of the United States!” he concluded.
The post has requested a comment from Google.
Trump’s outrage follows a study by the Media Research Center that analyzed the search results of two separate Google queries – “Donald Trump 2024 presidential race” and “Kamala Harris 2024 presidential race”.
MRC Free Speech America researchers’ search for the Harris campaign, conducted on Sept. 6, returned a result that came in third — below articles about the Democratic nominee suggested by mostly left-leaning outlets such as The New York Times, Washington Post and Politico that favor Harris.
The same question about Trump appeared in sixth place on the first page of results, below content critical of the Republican from the same media outlets — with no results from conservative publications such as the New York Post.
“Google is trying to decide in favor of Kamala Harris,” Media Research Center founder Brent Bozell told Fox News Digital.
“Google’s search engine pushes left-wing media articles that favor Kamala Harris and criticize Donald Trump. Don’t trust Google searches.”
A Google spokesperson denied the claims made by the MRC.
“Both campaign websites consistently appear at the top of Search for relevant and common search queries,” a company spokesperson said in response to the report.
“This report looked at a single rare search term on a single day a few weeks ago, and even for that search, both candidates’ websites ranked in the top results on Google.”
Last month, Google came under fire for allegedly anomalous search results related to Trump’s candidacy, as well as for its AutoCorrect feature to miss the assassination of the former president.
